Best Kept Village
What does this phrase conjour up for you? Chocolate box thatched
cottages nestled in the hills, surrounding a duck pond? A leisurely
game of cricket in the background? Think again. We have entered
the Buckinghamshire Village of the Year competition again this
year and here are some of the criteria needed to win.
- We need to
- circulate information to the village
- have -a web site (we have two!!)
- village charities
- a well-used village hall
- social events
- a local pub
- community groups
- a village directory
- support local businesses
- operate an after school club
- attract young people from outside the village
- support the older people in the community
- have volunteer organisations
- contain areas of special conservation.
As you can see, we are top in these categories. There are
more criteria, and on the 5 page form, we fail in only a very
few areas. Last year we got 70% and it was the parking on the
verges and litter that let us down. Let's see if we can better
that this year. The judging of the visual look of the village
will be done sometime in June (needless to say, exactly when
is a closely guarded secret!!)
With this in mind, we would like to have a LITTER BLITZ DAY.
Sunday June 9th is this day. Could everyone please step outside
their homes and pick up any litter that has been dropped, or
blown, there. I know it isn't your rubbish, but it is your village
and we would love to have it litter free for once. If any person,
or group, would like to tackle the public areas, that would be
wonderful. Rubbish sacks are available from Hugh (712004) or
Bev (714184) or the Widmer End Supermarket on Georges Hill.
Finally, we would like to extend a huge thank you to those folk
who already take it upon themselves to clear up litter as they
walk around. Particularly the area around the village hall and
recreation ground where rubbish is often deliberately dumped.
PLEASE HELP US TIDY OUR VILLAGE.
If you have any news of events let
me know.
